Rugs can be beautiful works of art and really make a statement when chosen wisely. They are quite versatile, as they are used in living rooms, under dining room tables, outdoors, in the bathroom, and in many other places. While rugs are a common piece of furniture in most households, many people are not confident in choosing a rug for their home. Often a lot of research must go into figuring out what the right rug is for you.
We suggest four aspects to look at when deciding on a rug.
Style
First think about the overall style or feel of your home or space. Have you already decorated each room and are replacing or adding a rug, or are you thinking of a theme and buying all your furniture at once? Depending on the ambiance of your home, you might want a hand-woven rug from Turkey or Asia or you might find you need a modern geometric print to compliment your other décor.
Size
Be sure to measure the area you want the rug to cover. As you work out the dimensions that fit in your room, consider a uniquely shaped rug. Maybe you’d prefer a square, circular, or half circle rug, rather than the traditional rectangle.
Purpose
When choosing a rug we have found it is imperative to remember the purpose of the rug. Do you need a rug that can be cleaned easily for under the dinner table or do you want a plush rug to sit on and run your feet over?
Color
Do not forget to keep your color palate in mind when choosing your rug. It might be helpful to take paint swatches with you when looking at rug options.
